Donald Drew: Thoughts For the Day

Most people today regard Jesus as just a wonderful man. As the writer Dick Keyes puts it, ”One of the reasons Jesus is so widely treated as nice but irrelevant (offering a salvation that nobody really needs) is that people don’t really believe the problem exists that He came to solve.” The problem is evil. For the average student, fornication, lying, dishonesty – these are not evil, simply part of life. ‘I don’t need saving. I have problems – we all have. What do I need rescuing from? Jesus is cool, that’s all.’ So, Keyes continues “evil is miniaturized into disaster or something bad. It’s something inexplicable and it’s not in people.”

  1. Derek,
I can not tell you how many times I’ve had talks with students that have been along these lines. Evil is not something done by people but something doen to people. We are so sick to not see our need to bear way our sins if we can. we can not. But he can.
